The Diplomacy of Deeds
Thursday, November 16, 2007 (ENGLISH)

America plays a large role in international development. U.S. leaders realize that global peace and prosperity, and the national security of the United States, depend on citizens having opportunities to better their lives. American public diplomacy focuses on what U.S. officials call the diplomacy of deeds, an approach founded on the principle that actions speak louder than words.

What is RSS?

RSS is a Web Content syndication format. Its name is an acronym for 'Really Simple Syndication' or 'Rich Site Summary'. RSS is a standard format (in XML) for delivering content that changes on a regular basis. Content is delivered in small chunks, generally a synopsis, preview, or headline.

How can I use RSS?

There are a number of applications collectively called RSS Newsreaders designed to read, manage and display content from RSS feeds. Some of these are standalone applications; others run in your browser. These applications allow a user to read headlines from dozens or hundreds of news sites at one time, by subscribing or pasting in the addresses of the RSS files you want, such as the ones listed above.

Once you have one of these aggregators installed, you simply insert the code on your web page for the RSS content feeds you want.

What is Podcasting?

Podcasting is a way to ’subscribe’ to audio programs and have them delivered via a personal computer to your MP3 player. Once the MP3 player is hooked up to a computer which connects to the Internet, a software program on the computer (freely available, such as iTunes, etc.) finds the latest editions of the subscribed podcasts and downloads these files to the MP3 player. The user can then disconnect the MP3 player and listen to the podcasts at any time.
